Today I packed up my roommate and my computer and my power drill and went to get lunch and deal with mechanical things, where by "packed up my roommate" I mean he drove. After vegan sweet potato pancakes at Deluxe Town Diner we headed over to [livejournal.com profile] dan4th's, where my bike, Mabel, has been languishing this past week. Justin had wanted to try to get the lock open before we did anything drastic like rent an angle grinder, so after he asked for a hammer I gave him my bike key.

The lock opened for him immediately like there had never been a problem.

I think this was because today broke freezing, but I don't really care - I slapped my new lock on there and instead of dealing with terrifying hardware (the car jack suggestion wouldn't have worked, as I put my lock around my back wheel) I got to sit around and play games.

Later we dropped Millie off with [livejournal.com profile] drinkywinky, who is going to poke at her for a bit and see if he can figure out what the problem is. She's started freezing in addition to spontaneously rebooting, but I'm not getting the same driver errors and rarely getting a blue screen at all, so best guess is it's a RAM issue.

This whole thing could have been really traumatic and inconveniencing, but for some reason it's been relatively easy to deal with.

Today I went and bought a new bike lock and then to the hardware store to get stuff to take the old lock off. I thought hardware store employees were supposed to know about hardware, but these guys were morons. Helpful comments included "oh, those are hard to break". I'm going to go to a different hardware store maybe tomorrow in the hopes that somewhere else "I need to get a kryptonite lock off my bike" doesn't somehow translate to "I'm building an expandable moonbase in my kitchen and I need something to make sure it works right".

It's still rebooting a lot. )

Also, to top things off, my bike lock is frozen and I can't unlock it.

Today I learned that my bike has a flat tire. Not as in low on air, as in suddenly completely flat since the last time I saw her. This is bad, since all my other options for getting to school suck.

Then my friend David got ketchup all over me by accident. This was hilarious, actually.

I bought ingredients for pasta sauce on my way home but forgot pasta.

Back to studying.

Dear woman whose kid opened a car door right in front of me this morning on my way to class,

You're in Cambridge. Cambridge is full of bicyclists. You were less than half a mile from a college campus, also full of bicyclists. If the timing had been just a tiny bit different I'd have hit your kid instead of the door on your excessively-large car or crashed really hard into the door instead of hitting the edge. You have no excuse for not paying attention.
